I think the most ubiquitous film trope in existence might be prison visitation/phone call durations.

In the countless TV shows and movies I've seen I don't think I've seen a single realistic representation of how much time you actually get allotted.

How it goes in film: 30 seconds to 1 minute without any cuts showing that more time has passed. Then guards come in and drag the prisoner away just as the conversation was getting important.

How it is in real life: 1-2 HOURS for visitation. Phone calls are shorter, varies a lot prison to prison, but are allowed more frequently. Prisons that allow conjugal visits allow multiple hours up to DAYS. Yes the spouse can sleep at the prison for days.

Never had any personal experience with this but I researched it after I thought about it for 2 seconds and realized how ridiculous it is that visitors might have to commute for hours and spend multiple minutes being processed by security just to have a 1 minute visit.

It's just lazy writing for added dramatic effect. There are many ways to show that more time has passed than is shown on screen; use them, film makers!!
