Errol Flynn’s Robin Hood

On a flight to Europe I had the distinct pleasure of watching Errol Flynn’s 1936 film “Robin Hood.”

IMO it’s one of the most watchable films of golden age Hollywood, more so even then The Wizard of Oz and Gone with the Wind.

Basically it’s the classic Robin Hood tale. King Richard of England goes crusading and leaves his younger brother prince John in charge of the Kingsom. He and the villainous Guy of Gisbourne ( no sheriff of Nottingham?) lead an oppressive regime of Normons over saxons in 11th century England.

Robin Hood, as played by the swashbuckling Flynn leads a guerilla insurgancy against the prince with much swashbuckling derring do!

It’s not Oscar worthy or that superb of a movie on its own ( though for being what it was, an action film, there were some great performances)

I just think it’s entertaining to watch. Thoughts?
