What's with Transformers: Rise of The Beasts appalling composite work?

I thought some of the shots they showed in the initial teaser trailer were the usual "these are the only shots that we've completed and we'd improve it if there are some issues". But no. It's not so much about the animation or CGI models, they're fine, sometimes perfect. The compositing between either: real people in front of green screen on to a plate; or CGI models on to real world footage are too often look like crap.

The one when Mirage sliding into a scene and Noah comes out from the car --not only a bit cringy-- but the compositing of the 911 on to the scene is terrible. It's bad enough in the trailer, and they chose to keep it? That bit when Noah wears Mirage's armour the compositing of his face inside the helmet is also terrible. Unmotivated blending work.

Other than the bad composite works, I'd also complain about how unbelievably flat the movie looks. By which I mean the lighting. It's like they didn't plan a lot of things before the shoot and light the actor & actress as softly as possible, in a greenscreen studio, and try to reshade in post. Which often just doesn't work.

Michael Bay's storytelling might be getting worse in each TF films, but he knows what to shoot and how. Imo his high contrast signature look just works with how gritty Transformers are. They still have somewhat complicated TF models with bits and bobs in this latest film, but the flat lighting showing every details.. idk, just doesn't look right. Too much to see.

end of rant
