Horror Movie Night Roulette - For Three Years, We Watched Two Random Movies a Week and Ranked Them, This is Our Method and Our Favorites.
Since the Pandemic and being quarantined, myself and a group of friends have organized an online group watch party once a week where we watch two random horror movies from 1900-1999 that represent the best, influential, pioneering, niche or just plain worst the genre has to offer.
We very deliberately stayed away from exploitation movies, rape-and-revenge stuff or anything involving IRL animal cruelty. We knew we weren't going to enjoy the likes of Cannibal Holocaust or I Spit on Your Grave so we just cut out the middle man and avoided them.
We've watched nearly 300 movies and have ranked them all, making these objectively the best* horror movies from the 20th Century.

So, here they are! The 10 greatest horror movies of the 20th Century!

After compiling the initial list (and adding more as time goes on) I created a randomizing formula that would allow us to have a random genre, and a random movie from that genre or; pick a genre manually and have a random movie selected or; picked a random movie without any genre input.
The third option became our go-to for weekly determinations.
Each Sunday, we'd have two randomly selected movies, read a little bit on their history, influence and creation, and watch together online. After the movies, we'd rate them out of 5 with absolutely no rigidity, rubric or standard. How did we feel that week? Was it fun? Would we tell someone to watch it? Was the main character cute? It didn't really matter and it was entirely vibes based.
You can send me whatever hate mail you want about your favorites position, but remember we are objectively correct in these rankings.
