What movies had a much bigger pop-culture impact back in the day than people nowadays would think?

I was recently thinking of how unbelievable it may sound explaining to a young person the absolute chokehold films like Borat (2006), Taken (2008) or The Hangover (2009) had over pop-culture in the late 00s. Especially since nowadays, no one really references them anymore (which is totally understandable).

They're not what you would typically call "classics" or "must-watch from ___ era", but they'd be the answer to the question "What did pop-culture look like in __ year?"

What are some other examples of this, maybe from other eras?
