"I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve." 37 years later, Stand by Me represents the importance of keeping low budget cinema alive.

No Oscar baiting. No over-the-top cinematography. No complex plot. This all helped to ensure the core purpose of the film - to represent the simplicity, the joy, the sadness, and the importance of childhood and friendship. In an age where films are moving to be corporate money generating machines with the constant remakes, multiverses and sequels/prequels, classics like Stand by Me show that less can be more, and that cinema really needs to start producing more simple, unique and meaningful films that an audience can relate to. Of course Stephen King was so proud of this film, it is truly, if I dare say it, beautiful storytelling.
