THE CRYING GAME: How many of you were fooled by the "twist"?

People can say "oh we knew" all they want but when THE CRYING GAME came out, LGBT issues weren't as mainstream. I honestly thought they used an actress posing as a trans woman because while Dil had some mannish features, many women also do have them, and she had a feminine voice. It blows my mind that Dil was played by a cis male actor who is now a total muscle bear. Jaye Davidson was absolutely gorgeous and at that time, totally passable as a woman.

The one thing that annoys me is that the film is known for the twist but it's actually an exceptional thriller and Dil's story is treated in a respectful and moving way and Davidson plays her as a fascinating femme fatale.
