Is the treasure chest from Beauty and the Beast a cannibal?

I just watched Beauty and the Beast (1991) with my 4 year old daughter. The last time I saw it was probably sometime in the late 90s. Anyhow, we were watching Beast's furniture-servants fight Gaston's mob of angry Frenchmen, when I noticed a peculiar detail. At one point of the struggle, a treasure chest eats a villager. Being that at the end of the cartoon all the furniture-servants become human again, does the treasure chest guy become a cannibal at that point? Taking into fact that the wardrobe lady also imprisoned one of the villagers inside herself during the fight, only to let him go (once she dressed him up like a girl), I presume that the person who got eaten by the treasure chest was alive - inside the treasure chest - when it became human again. There is no reason to believe that he was spit out at any point, as the huge tounge licking motion indicated that the treasure chest enjoyed eating the villager and that it wasn't letting him go. Perhaps both of them died when the curse was lifted, being that a whole person would be too large to fit into another person's stomach in one piece (presuming that the treasure chest had no bodily acids that could dissolve the victim beforehand, being that it wasn't made of organic material)? Maybe there was a total freak accident happening in one of the castle rooms as Beauty and the Beast kissed for the first time? What is your take on this?
