The opening scene of Superbad is a masterclass in the economy of writing

In this first scene, which is less than 3 minutes, we learn everything we need to know about this movie. We learn who the two main characters are (Evan and Seth). We learn what the tone of the movie is going to be (raunchy and hilarious with a lot of explicit sexual talk). We learn the personalities of the two main characters (Seth is very direct and crass, Evan a bit more cerebral). We learn the main conflict of the movie (that Seth and Evan are best friends graduating high school and will not be attending the same college). The setup for the core of the film is concise and entirely complete, and from there it's just a non-stop laugh riot.
