Does Pixar’s “Soul” Have a Cultural Footprint?

We’re now two years removed from the arrival of Pixar’s “Soul,” which had a considerable amount of hype in the lead up to its release. It was the first movie from Peter Docter since his smash hit, “Inside Out,” which undeniably had a massive cultural impact, so there was quite a bit of anticipation.

The movie arrived to wildly positive reviews and found its place on loads of critics’ top ten lists, being heralded as another Pixar classic by many.

Here we are, two years later, and it really seems like this movie kind of came & went. I know, in general, our culture moves so fast these days that it’s harder than ever to truly have some cultural stickiness, but it feels to me as if “Soul” never even existed.

At the time it was met with so much fanfare, with many declaring it the latest entry in the canon of Pixar greats, but now (to me) it seems almost entirely forgotten.

Was “Soul” overhyped? Was it really good but just a victim of our speedy culture? Or am I just wrong and people watch & discuss “Soul” all the time?
