Questions I had about The Black Phone

Side note, great film, had me on my toes!

But I am confused about one thing. Does Finney have spiritual physic powers like his mother and sister, or was the phone really just a link to the afterworld? To me, I thought he had powers like his sister, but my friends informed me that the phone was just a spirit phone to the other side.

Another question, was anyone else getting Stephen King vibes from the film? Kids with psychic powers, abusive parent(s), and a kid killer.
