I always thought that is job was basically scamming people by calling an actual real-estate agency, getting the info, and then repeating what was said to people who thought he was an agent and getting paid for it.
Rewatching it again though, I realize that at one point after he hangs up the phone with the real-real-estate agent, Renton yells "Who's got the keys to telegraph road!?" like he's working with other people. Who was he working for? Was this ever explained?
