Do Theaters Still Play Films In Empty Parlors?

Say it’s a slow time of the day or week. The theater has sold no tickets for a particular parlor.

Does the film still play on schedule in that parlor? Or does it just stay dark until the next showing with sold tickets? Seems like you’d save projector bulb life that way.

One would presume they wouldn’t but wasn’t sure if this was controlled via how many rights to play the content was purchased by the theater company, or if it’s just up to the theater manager/owner?
