Father of the Bride Part III has to be one of the easiest sequel opportunities that a studio hasn't made yet
With the success of the Father of the Bride reboot on HBO Max, I'm just thinking about how insanely easy it would be to greenlight a Part III:
- George Banks had an unexpected daughter in 1995. She would be 27 now. The premise sells itself (a 76-year-old Steve Martin and Diane Keaton have to grapple with their daughter's wedding in their twilight years).
- Nearly every actor from the original film is active right now and would be interesting to see in a film (Steve Martin, Diane Keaton, Martin Short, BD Wong, Kieran Culkin, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, George Newbern).
- The original two films were a bit ahead of their time in some respects and still fit will in modern day (e.g., having two openly LGBT characters).
- The film is quintessential feel good 90s nostalgia that probably fits tonally right now in such a shitty environment.
Someone who knows a hackish studio exec, please point to this opportunity.
