I saw Top Gun Maverick and it is simply phenomenal and this is coming from someone who disliked the original. It was a movie that acknowledged the passage of time while still delivering on what the fans of original loved with much better technology and also upgraded it's story.
In recent years we have had some genuinely great sequels to movies that were made a few decades ago. Movies like Creed, Mad Max Fury Road and Blade Runner 2049 are in my opinion the way a legacy sequel should work, one that expands upon the original themes while also evolving themselves. All of them were phenomenal and reminded me why I love the original Rocky, Mad Max 2 and Blade Runner. And i think Top Gun Maverick also deserves to be in the same conversation as the rest of them. Hell I can't think of a direct sequel that came just a few years after the original movie in recent years that I have enjoyed as much as enjoyed these legacy sequels.
So which other beloved older movies you wouldn't mind getting legacy sequels? Obviously there isn't a guarantee that they will also be great but considering the above movies, I think a chance should be given to a legacy sequel to truly impress rather than be cynical about.
