I feel she focused so much on dumb comedies or romcoms that she never challenged herself as a dramatic actress.
Whenever Diane Keaton did drama, she was incredible: Looking for Mr Goodbar, Interiors, Reds, The Good Mother (very underrated), Marvin's Room, Mrs Soffel...etc.
It sucks she only did corny family comedies in the 2000s where she often played the kooky mom. Even the nomination for Something's Gotta Give did her no favors. Those crappy comedies kind of hurt her legacy if we're being honest. But it shows how sucky Hollywood is for older actresses. Not everyone is as lucky as Meryl Streep or Helen Mirren.
