Is there a movie which you feel like has more in common with something other than what it's officially based on?

Have you ever felt like when watching a film, that even though it was said by the creator to be inspired by A but to you it felt very reminiscent of X instead? like a film inspired by a certain historical event that reminds you more of a different event that's completely unrelated? or based on one particular video game/comic book/novel but reminds you more of another?

For me, I can say it with Star Wars and the Alien films, both are supposedly based on the Vietnam War, particularly Return of the Jedi in which the Ewoks represent the VC and the Empire as the Americans, and Aliens where the Weyland Yutani Corp and the Marines are the Americans and the Xenomorphs are the VC, even though I'm aware of the obvious parallels, when I see those films I feel more parallels with British rather than American history, for example with the Ewoks they remind me a lot more of the Zulu due to being tribal warriors spears who fight off modern Soldiers with British accents and guns, the Stormtroopers, the Empire in general also feels a lot more like the British Empire than the American Government, due to their accent, culture (can anyone imagine an American government agent being called "Lord" anything?) and their power being very overt and unapologetically ruthless rather than under any type of pretext or sugar coating (even the carbines used by the troopers are dressed up WW2 Sterlings), this is not to say that there are no similarities between the US Government and the Empire, but in my opinion a more accurate analogy to the US Government for Star Wars would look a bit more like The Company from the show Prison Break in how they do things.

Also with Alien, I find the idea of a British (yes it's obvious in the first movie, Prometheus and extended lore) multinational Corporation with it's own semi private military force that settles people in places they shouldn't be in and stumbles across artefacts that should serve as a warning not to get involved as being more similar to the British South African Company, more specifically with Rhodesia, like the United States Colonial Marines in Aliens, the Rhodesian Army and British South African Police were private paramilitary forces initially, under corporate colonial administration that were modelled after the Army and Law Enforcement system of their host nation's government, the colonialists also stumbled across artefacts of the Great Zimbabwe indicating the presence of a previous civilization, which is similar to what Weyland Corp discovers on their colonies in the Alien films as well as in the AVP films and games, as in the movie Prometheus, I've also heard stories of soldiers from British colonies fighting unfriendly wildlife during operations, which is not too dissimilar to dealing with a Xenomorph infestation.

So whilst I am not blind to the similarities that the creators wanted me to see, I also feel like that the deliberate similarities are not the elephant in the room for me and they both implicitly remind me more of a separate part of history in a strange way.
