Cinemark won't give back change when paying in cash

I went to Cinemark to go see the batman and payed for my ticket in cash, the cashier at the counter said they don't give out change and that the exact amount is required. I feel ripped off what if I had to walk home without change for the bus? I don't believe that was a fair and square deal on their part.
