What actors did Hollywood try really really hard to make into “a thing” but flopped?

Like a Hollywood star that was supposed to be “the next big thing” and starred in big films but audiences didn’t really connect with and/or had career cut short due to them being unlikable or they had a cannibal fetish or something

I mean, this is a subjective term, so one persons flop is another person’s Tom Cruise but still…
