I was looking at people turning 60 and noticed Steve Carell is same age as people like Matthew Broderick and Emilio Estevez. In another life he could've been an 80s star.

He is easily old enough to have been famous from the 80s on, he is 4 years older than Cusack, 6 years than Anthony Michael Hall. I'm guessing he would've had a good look for high school movies too as either the virginal protagonist or maybe the best friend role.

He is also the same age as Carrey and 4 years older than Sandler so in yet another life he's a 90s comedy star. Imagine if we didn't know who Jim Carrey was really except for In Living Color fans until 2003-2005 range and then all of a sudden he breaks out in Apatow movies?

Carell did really well for a mid 40s breakout which is crazy rare and I've enjoyed his turn towards dramatic and heel roles, and you don't know if he just improved his game from the 90s, however it's also a little bittersweet that there was a lot of missed comedy years. In some ways I think previous eras of comedies like the 90s would fit his taste more as he seemed more interested in PG or PG-13 type comedies than R rated ones after 40YOV.
