When do you consider a movie franchise to have been milked for too long?

Are there any long running franchises you think are still quality? Eg. James Bond, Star Wars? IMO it will be interesting to see where they take Bond next with a new actor. Do they stick with Craig's style or go for something new? Whereas the recent Star Wars are a shame.

What about a more modern franchise like Fast and The Furious? They should've called it quits a long time ago.

How about some medium term franchises like Mission Impossible or Die Hard? MI, although has moved away from its initial style from the 1st movie is still a great quality franchise currently.

What are your thoughts on any other franchises which are still going well or should have been put to bed a long time ago?
