Southern Gothic in Film

I’m not sure if Southern Gothic necessarily applies to film, as I’m coming from more of a literature perspective.

The best example that comes to mind right now is There Will Be Blood’s corruption of religion with themes of depravity and personal greed/ambition in Eli Sunday and Daniel Plainview. Netflix’s The Devil All the Time flirts with a lot of the same ideas.

Does anyone have additional thoughts or recommendations for what might into that? It feels pretty niche, so I’d be open to stuff that’s close to it.
