Movie cliches that can't go away.

Like many of you I hate seeing the same movie cliches over and over in movies, but some of them, if removed, would probably make the film worse.

For example: The countdown timer. The bomb is always stopped with just a couple seconds to spare. If this went away, and the bomb was stopped with hours to spare, it wouldn't very exciting at all.
