Persnlly, I would never use anything but the theatrical version, not would I recommend it. I feel like that's the best way to experience it the first time, and then anything else added with director's cuts and such, it can ways come later without risking confusion.
Even with T2. I always remember it as the extended version with the scene between Sarah, Jon, and the chip. However, I'd leave that for a second watch. For me, it was a great bonus I wouldn't have appreciated fully if it were my first watch.
