watched Francis Ford Coppola's The Outsiders for the first time and really liked it

finally saw this one with its theatrical re release and I liked it. Haven't read the book. Some of these coming of age/teen angst movies are a mixed bag for me because they usually portray the parents/authority figures in extremely one dimensional ways and you can't help but laugh at the over the top bully characters but in this one, the drama worked for me. Of course the film is known for a cast that pretty much all became big in some way like Tom Cruise, Ralph Macchio, Patrick Swayze, Matt Dillon, Rob Lowe, and Diane Lane who was and still is fucking gorgeous of course. Howell, Macchio, and Dillon are the clear main characters and who get the most focus . The cinematography is also gorgeous giving it a real cinematic feel and not like some after school special. The version screened was the "Complete Novel" version that has about 22 minutes of footage not in the original 1983 theatrical cut. It also replaces most of the score with songs. A lot of people have complained about the songs but I didn't really have a problem with them. They were all period appropriate and fit for the most part. Guess I'll check out the theatrical cut one day to see the differences but I assume it is rushed and lacking the development of this longer cut
