"Awakenings" (Penny Marshall) was so good and hard to believe it was based on a real life incident. It's unfortunate the movie has become slightly forgotten. A melodrama which will make your heart melt.

I love everything about "Awakenings". The story, the acting, how it can be sad but it isn't too manipulative and Randy Newman's score tears your heart to pieces.

I love that they cast two actors in atypical roles, Robert De Niro as a man who was in a coma for decades and Robin Williams as a concerned doctor, and they never allow their known mannerisms to intrude. Even the supporting cast is brilliant. I thought Julie Kavner was solid, I found Penelope Ann Miller touching as a possible romantic interest.

It is disappointing this movie isn't as known as it used to be. At the time, it even got nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars. People are missing out on a moving drama.
