Young Neil's subplot is one of my favorite aspects of Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World

A little after Scott sees Ramona for the first time in the library, he and his band (The Sex Bob-Ombs) head out to a party that Scott doesn't really want to go to. Neil Keeps looking at Scott as they're walking, as if in some sort of anticipation, and when Scott says "Aw man, this is gonna suck," Neil then says "Suuuuck."
The scene transitions to Scott and Neil at the party. They're both standing still, and they both have a drink in hand. Scott says "Aw man, this sucks."
Neil: "Suuucks."
Scott: "I'm gonna pee due to boredom."
Scott walks off and after a pause Neil says "... I have to pee."
Neil is constantly mimicking Scott's actions, and once you notice that, it reveals itself in two major ways.

1. The band.
Scott ditches band rehearsal one night to hang out with his new girlfriend Ramona, claiming "Neil knows my parts." Later on they meet Gideon who wants to sign the band up on a record label. Scott refuses to sign up due to Gideon stealing (brainwashing) Ramona, but the band has no issues with signing. Neil signs in place of Scott and becomes the band's new bassist. During the climax, Scott's band is performing with Neil in Scott's place.

There's also some slight foreshadowing here: Scott's fight against Ramona's first of seven evil exes takes place during a Battle-of-the-Bands in which the Sex-Bob-Ombs are performing. Scott's in the middle of a performance when Matthew Patel comes crashing through the ceiling. To free up his hands for the fight, Scott unplugs his bass and tosses it out of the way, only for it to be caught by Neil.

2: Knives Chau.
This one is going to require a lot of exposition.
Scott begins the movie heartbroken, and to fill that void he starts dating Knives Chau. Knives is usually seen in her school uniform. She's innocent and obeys strict guidelines set by her parents. During their "relationship", Scott falls in love with Ramona who is expressive, independent, and a bad ass. One of Ramona's quirks is that she dyes her hair "like every week and a half." In the middle of the movie, her hair is blue.
Scott breaks up with Knives. Heartbroken, Knives goes on a tangent to make Scott jealous. She dresses in black, she adopts a "cool girl" attitude, and she highlights half of her hair the same blue as Ramona's. Next, she needs to get a boyfriend as fast as she can.

She texts Neil.

Next time we see Knives is when the Sex-Bob-Ombs are opening for Clash At Demonhead. The band is at the bar, and we see Knives and Neil together as a couple. Neil is now dating Scott's ex-girlfriend while she's dressed as Scott's current girlfriend.

Later, Knives gets punched in the head by Todd (Ramona's third evil ex) so hard that her blue highlights come out and splatter against wall. Neil comes to her aid and, frightened, he screams "HE PUNCHED THE HIGHLIGHTS OUT OF HER HAIR!" Now this might be over looking it, but Knives' highlights are an adoption of one of Ramona's characteristics. Neil being concerned with the highlights over Knives getting decked is interesting, as it's a portion of Ramona's personality leaving Knives.
