I never understood why calling Zombie's movies "Loud White Trash Horror" is seen as a bad thing. He makes movies about White Trash so what did you expect when you see them?
I unabashedly enjoy Rob's work - from his albums to most of his movies. I would not say he is a perfect film maker by any means but he has gotten much better since 1000 Corpses.
I still put Devil's Rejects in my top 10 horror movies and I enjoyed 3 from Hell (though it would have been better as a middle film instead of the end of a trilogy) and I personally like that he gave Micheal Myers a tragic backstory (made M. M. An actual character instead of a mindless machine).
I will agree that 31 was pretty mediocre but it still had his flair and style to it.
The only two I have yet to see are H2 and Lords of Salem.
But usually whenever it is mentioned he is making a new movie, the common complaint is "Full of screaming, cussing, white trash."
Well....yeah...
Have you seen any of the online videos lately? The 50 fucks a second, screaming, hollaring white trash scum of the earth really exist and they actually act like the monsters Zombie puts in his movies. They are foul, racist, unintelligent, foul mouthed lunatics just like the characters in his films.
That is just his brand of horror - where some directors do social commentary as their thing, and others focus on surrel or supernatural - Rob focuses on the trailer park scum who can be (and are) just as terrifying as slashers and monsters.
I find the screaming and madness that we see from these characters to be more realistic than other domestic violence (such as People under the stairs for example) shown in movies because I have seen the videos of assholes who act this way and that is what makes them frightening.
It is basically like how in a Stephen King book you know there will be a religious zealot and a murderous bully. That is what King dislikes and finds scary and Zombie clearly believes the dregs of the trailer parks is what is scary.
As for the Munsters movie - I actually am going to put my theory here;
The Munsters will be more horrific and realisitx looking monsters based off their original forms but they will still be a wholesome happy family. It will be the white trash redneck neighborhood who will be the real monsters and try to attack the Munsters.
