Falling Down in my opinion is a straight-up masterpiece because it puts you in an uncomfortable situation where this guy is doing heinous stuff, but on some level, you sympathize with him throughout the entire movie until the last 10 minutes when you realize he's just really mentally disturbed.
I'm normally someone who hates Joel Schumacher movies outside of Tigerland and Phone Booth, but this movie is so well done because Michael Douglas is sensational in it and the character and his arc throughout the movie is so well written. You really begin to start understanding this dude's plights with society and then by the end you realize that the guy you've having sympathy for is actually a mentally disturbed man who was about to kill his ex-wife and daughter.
