I love rewatching my favourite movies and noticing new details or moments that I’ve missed before. I’ve noticed certain directors are just great at making movies that can be rewatched.
Movies with twists are usually rewatchable just to see if you can find hints and such. Action films and comedies as well, I’ve must have seen Mad Max: Fury Road like 10 times by now.
I think something that is very important is attention to detail that’s why I enjoy watching Kubricks movies over and over I always feel like I notice something new. The same goes for my favourite director, Scorsese who definitely has the films I’ve rewatched the most. Especially since movies like Goodfellas are more about the journey than the ending, although the end is fantastic, so knowing what happens isn’t a huge deal.
John Carpenter is also great, I think The Thing may be one of the most rewatchable movies ever. It’s also one of only two films that I’ve show to all my friends that everyone of them just ends up loving, the other is Shutter Island.
In the end though personally I think the director with the most rewatchable movies is David Lynch. It’s incredible how much new stuff I notice every time I watch one of his movies again. Sometimes when I watch Mulholland Drive or Lost Highway I feel like I’m watching an entirely different story and I have a completely new interpretation, not many directors can achieve that.
