A little late to catch the boat here but Jaws (1975) is a perfect monster movie

The opening scene alone, where the girl is thrashed about in the water, helpless and screaming before it all goes silent— a lesser director would have tried to fit a jump scare in after the carnage. Instead, Spielberg relents and lets you catch your breath in that horrible void of sound and still water.

The film is impeccably acted, scripted, and directed and there’s a reason that no shark film comes even close (much as they may try to imitate).

It’s a type of mystery box creature feature, like Alien (1979) or to a lesser extent The Thing (1982) that I wish would make a resurgence.
