Just finished watching Nomadland - Good movie, but reminds me why Award shows need to start recognising the ensemble over the individual actor.

If you've seen the Oscars this year, you'll know that Frances McDormand won the Best Actress prize. She was undeniably great in the roll - but often it felt like she was just playing the same character as herself.

However, the peripheral actors, which looking through their IMDb profiles shows me that they were playing themselves & was their first starring roles, were very able to stand up to the powerhouse of McDormand - to the extent that while she was the famous name, she wasn't the star in many scenes.

In situations like this, it makes me believe that we need to stop honouring the individual actor and instead move towards recognising the ensemble as a whole.
