So i've just rewatched Dogma and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and realised how enlightened they were.

So this os mostly about the latter film but Dogma has Jay say pretty early on.
"You mean those fucks with the signs and pictures of dead babies? Shit no. Me and Silent Bob are pro-choice. A woman's body is her own fucking business!"

It also challenges the the worship of corporations (though this was hardly a new thing in 1998 it's still something to be highlighted).

In JAy and Silent Bob Strike Back there's an exchange criticising the use of 'gay' as a derogatory term e.g. "That's so gay", homosexuality is treated as a normal state of being, Willenholly is described as a a man but he says "only on the outside" suggesting he's trans and it challenges the lack of black holloywood directors.

Why is this relevant? Because I like the Reboot and i've seen more than one review calling it 'too woke' as if it's jumping on a bandwagon. Kevin Smiths progressiveness goes back to at least Chasing Amy and that for it's time featured a non-stereotypical lesbian main character talking frankly about sex. For it's time it makes the reboot look pretty standard in comparison, Chasing Amy came out in 1997 2 years later UK TV was showing 'Gimme Gimme Gimme' which had most of the jokes revolve around a very camp gay man living with a sex-starved straight woman. The reboot has some progression to it but compared to society in general it's no more progressive than Chasing Amy.

Obviously films and TV are way behind rock music when it's comes to progressive attitudes but without people like Kevin Smith pushing things forward then films will forever be sexist, misogynistic, homophobic crap.

I don't feel any criticism about it being too 'woke' is warranted or justified. There's some dubious acting performances but acting talent isn't exactly strong in any of his films so that gets a pass toolly what i'm saying is the reboot is a Kevin Smith film, nothing more or less and it should be compared against the earlier films in message.
