I Care a Lot is one of the worst movies I have ever seen.

Marla is a vile, disgusting character. She has no redeeming or relatable qualities. She abuses the legal system to imprison vulnerable people for profit. I hope they didnt think this made her likeable in anyway but it seems maybe they did. Because she is "successful". 15 minutes into the movie I almost turned it off because I was worried there was not going to be any way she would get her comeuppance.

She is also titanically stupid. Yes, you dont like when men threaten you. You dont want to be weak. But at some point take a hint. A random lawyer showed up trying to buy her off, and then threatening her, after she realized that her latest victim was sketchy with the untraceable diamonds. Then she found out Jennifer Peterson was a fake identity. Then Jennifer Peterson threatened her. Then the doctor turned up dead. Then the goons killed people inside the nursing home trying to help Jennifer escape. Then she finds out its Russian mafia. At this point, you should realize you are in over your head lady. If you continue fucking with these people you deserve what you get, even more than you already deserve it.

I think the movie thinks we want to see her beat these people? Let me be clear. No, I did not, at any point. I wanted her to die a torturous death. Every time that didnt happen, I got madder. I had to look up the ending later just to be certain that she would in fact be killed by someone otherwise I would have turned it off.

Now we are not even talking about how ridiculous the actual plot is. Why not just shoot Marla in the face? Thats what they did to the doctor. Or make sure she actually died in the car? Why not just shoot her girlfriend in the face? Or make sure she really died? These bodyguards are laughably bad at guarding their boss. (Edit: and where did she get a taser and drugs to overdose the boss?) Why didnt the boss just pay her the $10 million and then kill her, an option which he was clearly aware of? Money is one thing but these gangster types take special exception to people who go after their families, attack and nearly kill them, and humiliate them.

Also, I am a lawyer. There is no way in hell a doctor can just write an affidavit and get an emergency guardian appointed that easily. That process takes weeks or months or even years, and there is no way Jennifer would not be aware of what was going on, specifically because the guardian can be given so much control. For her to be given that much power she would need a full hearing with evidence, testimony, etc. And that shit about a John Doe getting a guardian after an overdose is total horseshit. Once the person wakes up and is lucid, there would be no reason to have a guardian at all, so there is no reason why that law would exist. Also what would they be guarding? No one knows who the person is, so there is nothing for the guardian to handle or deal with.

This was not a bad movie in terms of acting or production value. It was horrible movie in terms of writing and being morally reprehensible.
