Whoopi Goldberg gave a unforgettable performance in The Color Purple. I wish she had done more dramatic roles.

She did a few: Ghosts from the Mississippi, The Long Walk Home (very underrated) and Clara's Heart. Sadly (depending on how you see it), she did more comedies. Some were good but most were awful saved solely by Goldberg.

Her performance in The Color Purple is still among the best in the 80s. Shocking to find out The Color Purple was her film debut, I'd never imagine it was. She lost the Academy Award against Geraldine Page. Page was superb in The Trip to Bountiful however very few remember the film and her work in it. Whoopi Goldberg's Celie is still quoted today.
