My thoughts on 'The Little Things'

(spoilers of course.....)

something I haven't seen people talk about much - the film shows how police are evil, corrupt and no better than criminals.

In the past, they picked up Stan Peters for public urination, which isnt even a crime, likely because he was poor/homeless. Then they charged him with being a sex offender, which was clearly a lie, and destroyed his life.

Then at the time of the original murders of the hookers, he's picked up as a suspect, again total bs as he's not a sex offender. Its clearly implied he was beaten up and Deacon broke his jaw - thats a crime. This clearly marks Deacon as a corrupt cop. None of this is ever recorded.

Then Deacon murders an innocent young woman. The entire police force, his boss, the lab, everyone covers it up. No one gives 2 shits about the victim. He's simply transferred to another dept - this is exactly what happens in real life.

There is zero evidence against Sparma. Besides the high mileage on his cars which is anyway a total guess and total bs. Its not even enough to be called circumstantial.

The film shows how cops will manufacture and plant evidence to close cases. This is no doubt how Deke has his high clearance rate.

He's also mentally unstable and may or may not be the real killer, but it certainly wasn't Leto, there are many clues about it. But in order to protect himself and Jimmy, Deke commits numerous crimes, knowing full well nothing will happen to them.

Jimmy is also shown as a bent cop. He has no problems at all with an illegal break in and search, and he's supposed to the be new rising star and not one of the old school cops. Which proves this was SOP for the police.

At the end, he gets so wound up he murders Sparma - it was exactly like Ryan Philippe in Crash murdering an innocent passenger. In both cases they go scot free.

The film also shows how real clues, like the boots, and witnesses are ignored, sloppy police work, and lying to cover their tracks if it doesnt fit their narrative.
