It was certainly a lot darker than any of the other X-films except "Logan". The small cast kept the focus tight, the plot moved along at a good pace, and the effects were, IMO, very well done (although oddly, it was some of the 'small' things that they fucked up; Illyana's crayons rolling back and forth when the perspective in that shot switches to over-the-shoulder was obviously bad). I could have done without Illyana's racist jokes (or they could have at least had her apologize), but that's the biggest ding I can give it.
Solid 7/10.
