The Stepfather (1987) is a really fun old gem that I hope more people can remember.

Haven't seen the remake but apparently it is terrible. Check out the original if you're looking for another scary movie to scratch your itch during this time!

This horror thriller is about Jerry Blake, a family man who happens to have a series of families, with each one on the receiving end of his murderous ways. When Jerry sets his sights on a lovely widow named Susan and her headstrong daughter, Stephanie, it appears that his brutal pattern of killings will continue. However, Stephanie begins to suspect that there's something wrong with the seemingly well-adjusted Jerry..

Terry O'Quinn turns in a great performance as Jerry Blake, and it's easily one of the strongest aspects of this movie. Stephanie (played by Jill Schoelen) is a really sympathetic and well-drawn flawed character who's fun and easy to root for - something I wish was more common in these kinds of flicks.

Some have interpreted this movie as a critique of Reaganism. What do you think?
