Should I watch the prequel Alien movies before Alien (1979)?

Don't remember if I've ever seen Alien, but definitely not any of the others. Only know that there's an alien, and things go bad.

I watched Prometheus until Noomi Rapace had surgery by the automatic system.

So I basically don't know anything.

Should I watch Prometheus and Alien: Covenant first, or should I watch them in the order they were made?
