How many of you remember the haunting and nostalgia inducing film The Halloween Tree (1993)? Ray Bradbury does the voice over for the film, and it is based off his 1972 book of the same name.

I watch it every year on Halloween and it is one of those films that makes people really excited when they are reminded of it (if they saw it). It aired on Cartoon Network and maybe some non cable channels sometime later in the nineties (because otherwise I may not have seen it). The movie is only 1 hour and 9min long, but it covers a lot of ground. The four main characters plan to go trick or treating, but end up on a wild chase, following a friend whose life is in danger.

In their adventure they learn about how Halloween has been celebrated in the past and in different cultures. Without spoiling it, I do want to mention that the four friends have to make a very heavy decision.

I absolutely adore the soundtrack and the sound editing. It's a quiet film in a way, but I think it would appeal to children aged 8 and up. It isn't scary really at all, but the ending is pretty "deep" but also positive. I think it could bother a child who doesn't like spooky movies. It walks a strange balance, so take my recommendations on that front with that in mind.
