Dawn and War for the Planet of the Apes

I’m Dawn, they mention how they are all genetically immune to the virus, which is how they are all alive.

But in War, Woody Harleson’s character mentions how they all have the virus, but then it was only when he came in contact with doll he got new one

Doesn’t that contradict each other?

Or did I miss something?
