After LEGENDS OF THE FALL, Julia Ormond seemed headed to be the "it girl" of the 90s. What happened?
She did a couple of star movies: First Knight, Sabrina, Smilla's Sense of Snow. And then kaputt. Just as quickly as she became a breakout star as the complex romantic vixen in LEGENDS OF THE FALL, her star quickly diminished to the point where she starred as Lindsay Lohan's mom in I KNOW WHO KILLED ME.
To be fair to Ormond, she's gone back to her roots on British Television and is currently on a well-reviewed series but one has to wonder, what happened?
Ormond had the looks, the acting prowess yet Hollywood never seemed to know what to do with her. Part of me feels like there was too much competition within the corset queens: Kate Winslet, Helena Bonham Carter, Emma Thompson when she was writing roles for herself...etc.
But it's a pity. Because I've seen some of the indie stuff she did and I feel Ormond never reached her full potential in America. They wanted her to be the British Audrey Hepburn when Ormond had more in common with a young Debra Winger.
