Can we talk about The Night Clerk?

I’d seen The Night Clerk pop up several times recently on Netflix. Being a fan of Tye Sheridan since Tree Of Life and Mud, and a fan of John Leguizamo since his standup when I was a kid ... plus wanting to see Ana de Armas in something since her brilliant turn in Knives Out, I figured I’d give this a shot.

I was hesitant because of the low IMDB score but proceeded anyway. From the opening scene, I was completely hooked. Sheridan does a great job of pulling you into his world. Without completely knowing why, I was immediately interested in him.

As the story unfolded, I became increasingly invested in the characters. But then, in the third act and particularly in the final stretch, the whole thing just fell apart. At just 90 minutes long, I wonder if some things were edited out that could’ve raised the stakes to make the ending (which was ambiguously flat) stronger ... or maybe different somehow.

For most of the movie, I was scratching my head about the low IMBD rating but when I got to the end, I understood. Am I wrong?
