Does anyone know the first movie to ever feature a scene of someone crawling through a ventilation shaft?

Surely there must be a definitive origin for this trope? AFAIK it's not something anyone has done in real life, it's just one of those things that only ever happens in movies. Or is it one of those strange things that doesn't really have an origin, everyone just claims to have copied it from something else?
