Silence of the Lambs director Jonathan Demme discussing William Goldman's contribution to the film

Reading about Demme's Stop Making Sense sent me down a wormhole that led me to this: Demme (RIP) talking to Deadline about how the Princess Bride/Butch Cassidy/All the President's Men screenwriter (also RIP) called him, unsolicited, and told him to cut a lengthy sequence from Silence of the Lambs. (Goldman had seen a screening of the film before its release.)

It worked, of course; Silence of the Lambs is a perfect movie.
