The original horror movie Candyman always made me ugly cry. No matter how suicidally dumb the heroine was, I would weep because Candyman loved her so much. Even if he was, you know, a crazy supernatural monster. And I realized that was the Twilight story. 😮 He even sort of wanted her to join him in his supernatural life with a sort of adopted (stolen) baby.
I believe Candyman is the better version though. The movie implies the heroine IS dumb, but thats ok! We still sort of care about her because she is our window into the mystery and we're invested. And the Candyman isn't some half assed regretful monster, he is a genuine horror and proves it by horrifically murdering poor, innocent Bernadette, proving that being the sensible one will not save you. Yet he is still supernaturally sexy, despite not being young, pale and sparkly, and he is covered with blood, bees and honey, but because Tony Todd's voice fucking mesmerized you. The heroine does even become her own monster and there's no happy ending, just a satisfying one.
I just hope the new Candyman doesn't make me ugly cry again. ðŸ˜
