I rewatched the television scene in Requiem for a Dream (2001) where Ellen Burstyn’s character does her monologue about being alone and wanting happiness. When she said, “it’s a reason to get up in the morning…a reason to smile,” it hit me really hard. Her whole speech, amped by her amazing performance, had me crying easily.
