What sequel works well as its own separate story?

In other words, doesn’t require you to watch its predecessors in order to fully understand what’s going on? You have a good idea of who everyone is, and hearing about past events are mentioned but it doesn’t affect the overall story where you’re left confused.

I find that The Dark Knight is a very good example of this! As a trilogy, it feels like the main movie that while Batman Begins acts as the prequel if you want further information on how Christian Bale’s Bruce Wayne became the masked vigilante, while The Dark Knight Rises is the real sequel that explores how his past comes back to haunt him and how his character arc concludes. Those movies are available to watch!
