Thoughts on Kung Fu Panda 3 (2016)?

I think this is Dreamwork's best franchise ngl. The competition is tough with the likes of Shrek and How to Train your Dragon as great contenders. But I really love Po as the main character and the animation design of the trilogy, especially of the fight scenes is so freaking good. Just recall the Tai Lung escape scene from the first movie, or the final fight with Shen in the second movie or finally, the spirit realm fight from the third one.

Anyways, KF1 and KF2 seem to be held in high regard whereas I have noticed KF3 is considered a step below. This is even reflected in the box office where 3rd is the lowest grossing film in the trilogy. However, now that I watched the third movie, I thought it was as good as the other 2. I can safely say that Tai Lung & Lord Shen are better villains than Kai, the villain in the 3rd movie. But where we have a weaker villain, we have a stronger supporting character in Po's real father voiced wonderfully by Bryan Cranston.

I loved how both the panda, Li Shan and Mr. Ping find a way to both be there for Po and not to have him make a choice. That dynamic played in the bigger picture too where Po's friends and Master Shifu are united with the pandas in the end.

While Kai was your standard villain, I do think his powers and weapons were very cool & the spirit realm was also an awesome place to visit, expanding the scope of the world. Lovely to see Oogway back as well chilling in the spirit realm.

What do you think about Kung Fu Panda 3?

My ratings for all 3 are 8.5/10. Maybe I would give Kung Fu Panda a 9/10.
