Pixar has an incredible resume. Inside Out, Finding Nemo, Toy Story's, Up, Soul, Incredibles, Soul, Wall-E, Ratatouille, Monsters Inc, and on and on
But having rewatched Coco tonight, I really think it stands out even amongst Pixar films and I think I have it in my top 3 behind only the original Toy Story for sure
The twist is seen from a mile away but it's not really a big deal. That's about the only negative I can think of. The movie plays on so many emotions ending with that song at the end where I actually felt tears well up the first time...but also being fun too. Hector's a fun co protagonist with spot on voice acting in emotional scenes tinged with the sadness that his character knows/ is fighting. His song near the beginning to the fading/dying old man etc.
That it manages to involve the subject of death through a whole kids movie and do it as delicately without being patronizing is pretty amazing in itself. And then the visuals...man I think the work they did with the land of the dead...when it opens up to the whole place in the flying scenes...it's among or is the best visual work they've done. Which is saying a lot
And yeah, again, ending is one of the more emotionally satisfying ones of a Pixar film
Where do you guys rate it amongst Pixar's best?
